Sonam Lotus Predicts Heavy Snowfall in Kashmir Valley

Sonam Lotus, a seasoned weather forecaster, has issued a forecast predicting heavy snowfall across the Kashmir Valley from February 18th to 21st, as per the latest updates from the Meteorological Department.

The forecast extends to the Western Himalayan regions, encompassing Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, where significant snowfall is anticipated during this period.

This forecast comes as Kashmir transitions from the conclusion of the 40-day intense winter period known as ‘Chillai-Kalan’ on January 29th to the ongoing 20-day ‘Chillai-Khurd’ period, which concludes on February 19th. Following this, the region will enter a 10-day ‘Chillai-Bachha’ period from February 20th to March 1st.

While the transition period unfolds, temperatures have been fluctuating across the region. Although there has been a notable increase in minimum temperatures, they have remained below freezing.

For instance, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 2.5°C on Tuesday, showing a slight rise from the previous night’s temperature of minus 3.6°C. However, this temperature remains 2.7°C below the normal temperature for this time of year in the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir.

Similarly, other areas such as Qazigund, Pahalgam, Kokernag, Kupwara, and Gulmarg have witnessed fluctuations in temperatures. Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 1.2°C, Pahalgam minus 5.4°C, Kokernag minus 0.3°C, Kupwara minus 4.5°C, and Gulmarg minus 4.5°C.

These temperatures have varied from below normal to above normal for their respective regions.

In Jammu, the minimum temperature was recorded at 8.4°C, indicating a deviation of 1.7°C below the normal temperature for the winter capital of Jammu & Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah recorded temperatures of 1.0°C, 3.7°C, and 3.7°C respectively, adding to the diverse temperature patterns observed across the region.

With the forecast of heavy snowfall looming over the Kashmir Valley and adjacent regions, residents and authorities are preparing for potential disruptions while bracing themselves for the winter weather ahead.
